INTERNATIONAL SALSA COMPETITIONThe NUTZ BAR is proud to present the first International Salsa Competition in Vietnam.
July 27th – 28th 2007
Featured are great salsa workshops, outstanding showcases, social dancing into the night and a competition with $1000 in cash!
The event promises to be fierce and full of surprises!

PRIZES
Finalists will compete in a share of 1000 US Dollars worth of cash!
- 1st place: 600 US Dollars
- 2nd place: 300 US Dollars
- 3rd place: 100 US Dollars
Along with award certificates, other competitors will have the opportunity to win special prizes.
REGISTRATION
The competition is open to any couple who dance Salsa regardless of experience, age, national or any other defining characteristic (exceptions will be made only on a case-by-case basis).
All competitors must complete the registration process (available at the cashier of NUTZ BAR) by July 25th 2007.
Registration fees: 50.000 Dong (non-refundable).
All couples will compete in the preliminary round on Friday.
Only three couples will advance to the finals on Saturday.
Please be aware of scheduled competition times and be prepared to dance.
PROCEDURE
- First section: freestyle
All competitors will freestyle dance for a period of no less than 5 minutes to the DJ’s pre selected music.
- Second section: choreographed
Each couple will perform a routine no longer than 5 minutes that they have choreographed to their own music.
For the choreography music must be at least 80% Salsa.
The CDs should be ready to be played as is.
JUDGING GUIDELINES
Both freestyle and the choreographed sections will be judged equally in the following categories: timing, musicality, styling, and partnering.
A panel of no less than three judges will decide their final scores following these guidelines:
Timing: 40%
Couples may choose to dance on the first, second or third beat but must stay on the same beat all the way throughout.
Musicality: 30%
Each contestant will be judged in his ability to perform moves which match changes in the flow of the music being played, with the goal of relating their dance to the instruments and mood.
Styling: 20%
Competitors will be judged in their originality and creativity (including moves, choreography, costumes and music)
Showmanship: 10%
Couples will be judged in their stage presence.
Additional information:
“In the air” partner weight moves, such as lifts, aerials and acrobatic moves are not allowed. “On the ground” support moves (such as drops and splits) are allowed (but of course not required) to the degree that they would be considered safe.
Side-by-side patterns (“shines”) must be present in at least 20% of the choreography.
